In brief, presentations include the reading of two or more age-appropriate books from the Spencer Family Books collection. Followed by an activity or discussion wherein Preschoolers through 1st graders will have the opportunity to create their own book page, based on the book Duck Strut, and be shown how to make an illustration to help tell their story. Second and Third graders will be shown how to make origami animals, based on the book The Paper Animal Bus. Fourth graders will have a discussion revolving around family stories after reading "A Scary Surprise,"* Grandmother's Gift, and Harry Wesley Spencer's Boots. Within New Hampshire, this may be enhanced by the display of the actual boots from 1878.
Fees: $75 per session (approx 45 min to 1 hr with groups limited to 50) plus travel and, where needed, lodging expenses.
Presentations appropriate for senior centers and other community groups include a talk based on our Spencer Family Books and how the audience can publish their own stories without going through the traditional publishing houses and, with minimal computer knowledge, spend less than $100.
